History
  • Proposed in 1848 and founded in 1907 as a two-year basic science program.
  • Became a four-year institution in 1925.

Faculty and Staff
  • UW School of Medicine and Public Health faculty hold appointments in 26 departments, 15 in the clinical sciences and 11 in the basic sciences.

  • Most faculty members in the clinical sciences serve on the medical staff of UW Hospital and Clinics or American Family Children’s Hospital.

  • Comprised of some of the nation’s leading researchers and clinicians, the faculty includes many National Medal of Science recipients and National Academy of Science honorees.

  • Faculty routinely garner national distinction in biomolecular chemistry, physiology, cancer, medicine, neuroscience, ophthalmology, surgery and many other fields.
