Umberto Tachinardi, MD, MSc

Umberto TachinardiA native of Brazil, Umberto Tachinardi, MD, MSc, received his medical degree in 1983 from Itajuba School of Medicine and a master's in physiology from the Biomedical Sciences Institute at the State University of Sao Paulo.

 

Tachinardi is an internationally known expert in health-care information management. In 1994, he pioneered the use of secure Web communications for transmission of medical records in Brazil. Since coming to the United States in 2006, he has served on many NIH review panels and been involved with national medical informatics groups and projects.

 

In addition to his role at the School of Medicine and Public Health, Tachinardi will provide direction for the creation of a single UW Health "data warehouse" of health information. The UW project will build on UW Health's conversion in 2009 to a complete electronic health record system. He will also direct the biomedical informatics core, a key leadership position at the UW-Madison Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR).
