WMAA Awards
The Medical Alumni Association awards committee invites you to nominate your colleagues and classmates for the 2007 Medical Alumni Association Awards listed below.
Medical Alumni Citation Award
The award honors a Medical School alumnus who has achieved distinction in medicine. Achievement is recognized through excellence in the practice of medicine, in academic activities, and in research accomplishment.
Emeritus Faculty Award
The award recognizes outstanding service to the Medical School. It is offered to an emeritus faculty who has exhibited exceptional commitment to the school over a period of years.
Medical Alumni Service Award
The award recognizes outstanding service to the Medical Alumni Association. It is offered to an alumnus who has exhibited exceptional commitment to the association over a period of years.
Ralph Hawley Distinguished Service Award
The award is conferred on an alumnus who has made outstanding contributions to the local community through medical practice, teaching, research or other humanitarian activities.
Honorary Life Memberships
UW Medical School and UW Hospital employees who have been particularly helpful to students and alumni are eligible. Previous winners include: photographer Homer Montague; registrar Isabelle Peterson; Medical School staff members Ron Holt, Ralph Hawley, Charles Lobeck.
Sigurd Sivertson Medical Education Award
This award is in recognition of Dr. Sivertson's years of commitment to community-based medical education. The importance of access to quality health care in the communities of Wisconsin and the contribution of community physicians to medical education are core elements of the programs of the University of Wisconsin Medical School. This award recognize individuals that have contributed to the education of medical students throughout their careers. This will further recognize the contribution made by the hundreds of community physicians to the health of the citizens of Wisconsin by providing care in the communities of Wisconsin and providing educational opportunities for medical students in their communities.
Harold P. Rusch Awards in Translational Cancer Research
Two awards are made to recongize the breadth of Harold Rusch's vision and accomplishments. His leadership at University of Wisconsin Medical School resulted in the McArdle Laboratory for Cancer Research and the UW Comprehensive Cancer Center. The awards are given to faculty members who have made seminal contributions to translational research and the understanding of disease, especially neoplstic disease.
