Outright Contributions
Cash
A personal check is the easiest and most direct way to make a gift. We’re able to put these gifts to work immediately for such things as scholarships or fellowship funds, professorships or chairs to provide support for a program of special interest. Cash gifts are tax deductible and generally, the actual cost of your gift generally will be reduced by the tax benefit.
Matching Gifts
To encourage employees to make charitable gifts, many employers match personal donations with an equal or greater contribution. In some cases, companies will match the gifts of retired employees. Check with the human resources department to find out if your company offers a matching gift program.
- Call your human resources office to see if your company has a matching gift program and how you can initiate the process of securing a match.
- Participation procedures vary. If your program includes a printed form, please complete and send it to the address below:

Securities (Personal Property and Real Estate)
A gift of securities allows you to make a gift to the UW Foundation and receive a charitable deduction equal to the full fair market value of the securities. You pay no capital gains tax on your gift nor does the Foundation if the securities are sold. Gifts of property include two major forms: real and personal. Real property is simply real estate--a home, farm or other land. Personal property includes cash, securities, art work, patents, copyrights or any item that has a determinable value.
