Choosing the area you wish to support

UW Medical Alumni most commonly support the funds listed below.

Medical Alumni Association
Your gift to the Medical Alumni Association is used for student programs; events; awards for students; faculty and alumni; class reunions; continuing medical education programs; the Alumni Quarterly magazine; and other Medical Alumni Association activities as determined by the Medical Alumni Association Board of Directors.

UW Medical School
Your gift is used for general operating funds for UW Medical School at the discretion of the Dean. These funds support teaching, research, patient care, facilities and equipment at UW Medical School.

Alumni Hall/Health Sciences Learning Center
Your gift will be used to construct the premiere 350 seat lecture facility located within the new UW Medical School. Outfitted with state-of-the-art technology, including three projection systems and computer linkage at every seat, this auditorium will be the only west campus location where the 300 first and second year medical students can meet together in joint session. Furthermore, the auditorium will provide a site for large groups of students, faculty, staff, or members of the public to gather for distinguished lectures and other special programs.

Low Interest Student Loan
Your gift will contribute to a fund that supports a loan program for medical students who have demonstrated financial need. Interest payments on the loan will be deferred until five years after graduation. After the five year deferment, the loan must be repaid within 10 years at 5 percent interest. The student borrower is required to expend 10 percent of the loan amount to purchase a single premium life insurance policy on the student borrower naming the Medical Alumni Association, owner and beneficiary of the policy. The insurance will repay the loan in the event of the early death of the borrower. In the normal case of events, the policy would pay dividends for many years and, ultimately, the face value becomes available. Both the dividends and the face value of the policy are added to the loan fund to create additional loans for future medical students.

Charles Bardeen Fund
Your gift will be used to support a fourth-year medical student who possesses the best attributes of a physician: dedication to the profession, academic excellence, high ethical standards, commitment to the best interests of the patient, manifest honesty, unselfishness, personal self-discipline and responsibility, good judgement, kindness, and good interpersonal relations. Recipients are chosen by their fellow classmates.

Medical Student Scholarship Fund
Your gift, combined with the gifts of others, will create an endowment for medical student scholarships. The qualifications of the recipients are to be decided by the Medical School Honors and Awards Committee. Some scholarships will be based on need and others on merit.

Medical Student Scholarship Fund/Minority Students
Your gift, combined with the gifts of others, will create an endowment for medical student scholarships for minority students. The qualifications of the recipients are to be decided by the Medical School Honors and Awards Committee. Some scholarships will be based on need and others on merit.
