2009 Medical Alumni Service Award Recipient
Harvey M. Wichman, MD '65
Dr. Wichman has demonstrated his dedication to the Wisconsin Medical Alumni Association in numerous ways over the years. He has been a lifetime member since 1970 and served as Wisconsin Medical Alumni Association president from 2000-2002. He led the effort to create the first Wisconsin Medical Alumni Association strategic plan and to establish a unique affiliation agreement between the Wisconsin Medical Alumni Association, the UW School of Medicine and Public Health and the University of Wisconsin Foundation. He also played a key role in the leadership transition that brought Karen Peterson to the position of Wisconsin Medical Alumni Association executive director.
On the Wisconsin Medical Alumni Association board of directors between 1992-2006, Dr. Wichman was also a class representative for more than 10 years. He has been a member of the Middleton Society since 1990 and Bascom Hill Society since 2002; a Teaching Assessment Room in the Health Sciences Learning Center is a testimonial to the family's generosity.
After earning his medical degree from the UW School of Medicine and Public Health, Dr. Wichman completed his internship at Mt. Sinai Medical Center in Milwaukee and then completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Louisville Hospitals in Kentucky. He joined Milwaukee Orthopedic Specialists in 1970. He specializes in joint replacement and foot and ankle surgery.
