anesthesiologyThe Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison was founded in 1927 under the guidance of Ralph M. Waters, MD, as the first academic program in anesthesiology in the country.

 

After more than 80 years, the department, part of the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, remains committed to Waters' guiding principles of providing outstanding patient care, educating the next generation of clinicians and leaders and advancing the scientific foundation of the discipline.  

 

The department is home to the state-of-the-art Human Simulation Center and offers opportunities for medical student rotations and fellowship training.

 

The department has a strong commitment to resident and continuing medical education at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, with a level-specific core curriculum that includes:

  • visiting professor program that brings in nationally recognized experts on a monthly basis
  • A weekly case conference series
  • Opportunities to participate in a range of specialized clinical programs as well as research
