Dr. Laurel Rice, who leads the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, says of Dr. Gloria Sarto, “throughout her distinguished career, she has tirelessly championed equality and diversity in leadership, science, medicine, and healthcare.”
Since 1998 Sarto has been a UW School of Medicine and Public Health professor, directing the Women’s Health and Health Disparities Research Program. In addition, she has served as the principal investigator of the federal program Women’s Health Initiative. She directs the UW School of Medicine and Public Health's Health Disparities Research Scholars Program, funded by an NIH grant that aims to develop a cadre of researchers who strive to reduce health disparities among minority populations.
Rice further says that Sarto’s “life-long and multi-faceted efforts will stand as a testament to the importance of health equity in creating a better world for women and their families.
