Financial Aid
The Office of Student Financial Services (OSFS) assists medical students whose personal and family resources are not adequate to cover the expenses involved in attending the UW SMPH. The office also provides counseling to help students manage their money effectively, information on other potential sources of financial assistance, small short-term loans for emergency situations, and long range debt counseling. Financial assistance for medical students through OSFS is limited almost exclusively to loan assistance. Only a limited amount of grant assistance is available to a few students who have high financial need. This does not include a limited number of scholarships offered by the UW School of Medicine and Public Health.
Additional information about the OSFS is available at - http://www.finaid.wisc.edu/med.html
All aid applicants must file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This application becomes available after January 1 each year and should be filed by March 1, even if your application has not been reviewed by that time.
Additional information about the FAFSA is available at - http://www.FAFSA.ed.gov
The Association of American Medical Colleges offers an Electronic Resource Manual for Financial Planning throughout your medical career. It is a three-phase guide. Phases one and two address financial planning in the transition to and the time spent in medical school. Phase three deals with financial planning after medical school.
