Apply for 2012

Applicants who choose to apply to the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health MD degree program via the traditional/regular route apply through AMCAS between June 1 and November 1 and usually apply to a number of additional schools as well.

1. Read the UW School of Medicine and Public Health Admissions Guide

The 2012 admissions guide (pdf) has detailed information about applying to our program. If you are a reapplicant, see our special section about reapplying.

2. Take the MCAT

Timeline: Latest score accepted for 2012 consideration is September 10, 2011.

If you submit your AMCAS application and an additional MCAT score has not yet been reported, we will wait for the additional score to be submitted before reviewing your application.

3. Submit your AMCAS Application

Timeline: The deadline is November 1, 2011. Early applications are encouraged.

You will need to select one of the programs offered at the UW School of Medicine and Public Health:

• Regular MD
• Rural MD: This program is offered through the Wisconsin Academy for Rural Medicine (WARM) and will appear as Other Special Programs in the AMCAS application
• MD/PhD: This program will appear as Combined Medical Degree/PhD in the AMCAS application

4. Submit Your Secondary Application After Receiving our Invitation

Timeline: The deadline is December 1, 2011 (early applications are encouraged).

5. Participate in Our Interview Day Program After Receiving Our Invitation

Timeline: Interviews will be scheduled from late September through early March.

Note: It may take from four to six weeks before a final decision is made. Make sure your preferred address in AMCAS is current.

6. Accept Our Offer!

Timeline: You will need to accept your offer from the UW School of Medicine and Public Health within two weeks of receiving your letter. You may also accept offers made to you by other medical schools until May 15, 2012 (see below).

7. Choose the UW School of Medicine and Public Health, an Internationally Recognized Leader in Education, Research, Community Service and Global Outreach for Your Medical Education

Timeline: You will need to make a final decision on which medical school you will be attending no later than May 15, 2012 (April 30, 2012 for MD/PhD applicants).
