The Coda Blue string ensemble (pictured above) is one of the medical student musical groups that provide entertainment at social events for students, faculty and alumni. The school also has a cover band, the Arrhythmias, composed of medical students.

Medical student organizations
Medical student interests are as diverse as the students themselves. The following is a list of active medical student organizations.

Medical Student Association (MSA)
The voice of the students as a liaison between faculty, administration and the Wisconsin Medical Alumni Association. It also coordinates student organizations and social events, and shares information from state and national organizations.

Advocacy and Intervention for Medical Students (AIMS)
For students and faculty interested in providing a confidential resource, education, support and advocacy outside the school’s administration for students whose lives may be adversely affected by a variety of problems such as substance abuse.

American Medical Association (AMA), Medical Student Section
A powerful lobbying group with a long, rich history in shaping healthcare in the United States.

State Medical Society of Wisconsin (SMSW)
A strong voice speaking to the healthcare issues and policies of the State of Wisconsin.

American Medical Student Association (AMSA)
A student-governed, national organization committed to representing the concerns of physicians-in-training.

The Organization of Student Representatives (OSR)
Provides medical students with representation to the American Association of Medical Colleges.

Specialty interest groups
The following groups meet regularly to broaden students’ understanding of areas of medicine, or to share common interests. The groups often have faculty advisors or clinical contacts who assist with their goals.

Community service organizations

Doctors Ought to Care (DOC)
Trains and sends students to local schools to talk about health prevention.

International Health Exchange
Collects medical aid for third-world countries, organizes trips to experience health care delivery in other countries.

LOCUS (Leadership Opportunities with Communities, the Underserved and Special Populations)
A unique four-year leadership program for medical students to develop skills and acquire knowledge to help them work effectively with communities.

MEDIC
Provides healthcare to underserved people in Madison; medical students, physicians, nurses and other health professions students work together.

Mentorship Achievement Program (MAP)
Matches at-risk middle school students with medical students who provide support, encouragement and structure for young people in need.

Mothers and Maternal Support
Supports unwed mothers-to-be during pregnancy and delivery.

Social organizations

Arrhythmias
Cover band composed of current and former medical students.

Coda Blue
Medical student string ensemble.

Dean's Cup
Annual competition with the Law School to raise money for charity.

Dr. Mom
Recreational and support group for medical students with children.

The FUN Club
Recreational group for medical students.

Karaoke Interest Group
Group that organizes Karaoke parties and participates in local competitions.

Medical Student Running Club
Fitness group.
