South Madison Coalition of the Elderly Volunteer Opportunities

The South Madison Coalition of the Elderly invites you to enhance the lives of older adults in Madison. We are in urgent need of volunteers to assist us in serving meals and in helping with simple home chores for an older person.

  • Convenient locations - walk, ride your bike, on the bus line
  • Work around your schedule
  • Make a difference in the lives of older adults
  • Build your resume
  • Be a friend to an older person
  • A team of two to three volunteers could work together

Home Chore Volunteers: Assist an older adult with basic home chores. Volunteers are matched one-on-one with a person needing help. A half-hour orientation before placement can be done on campus.

Senior Lunch Program: Help older adults receive a warm meal. Assist with setting tables, serving and clean-up.  Commit to helping one day a week, Monday through Friday, 10:30am-12:30pm.

Several locations are available. For both programs:

  • Across from Meriter Hospital
  • Downtown Senior center
  • Quaker Housing, near Park and Buick streets
  • Romnes Apartments, 540 W. Olin Ave.

Special meal programs:

  • Second Sunday of the Month at the Downtown Senior Center, 11am-2pm
  • Organize something special for February 14, Valentine's Day
  • First and Third Thursdays: Asian meal - across from Meriter - 4:30-6:30pm
