Medical students should keep in mind that our institutional priority is academic excellence as the basis for quality patient care as future doctors. It is important to keep this priority in mind as you make choices about cocurricular activities.
Participation in service and leadership activities will not compensate for low grades and/or Board scores as you move on to residency. We deeply appreciate your willingness to extend yourselves to provide service in underserved communities, but we ask you to be mindful and responsible as you make these choices.
Whatever you choose to do, we depend on you to do well and to fulfill your responsibilities. In all of your community service activities, you serve as ambassadors of the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, helping to uphold and enhance our institutional reputation. Please keep this in mind in all of your interactions.
To view a calendar of medical student community service opportunities, visit the UW Med Students Website. (Community service opportunities are listed in green.)
