Salvation Army Volunteer Opportunities
1. Family Stabilization Program – volunteer family mentor: The Family Stabilization Program works with families who have been homeless in the past or who are at risk of becoming homeless. Through case management, The Salvation Army helps them establish stable housing and secure family situations. The program includes matching the family with a volunteer family mentor for additional support.
The volunteer family mentor acts as a coach, advocate and friend. Together the mentor and family work toward the family’s short- and long-term goals. The mentor makes at least a six-month commitment to see the family twice a month and speak with the family on the phone weekly. We provide training and support to the volunteer throughout the mentoring relationship. Contact mentor coordinator Dusty Rademacher at (608) 250-2227
2. Saturday Night Soup Kitchen – groups: We are looking for organizations to provide food for the meal, prepare and serve the meal to shelter families and members of the Madison community. We serve over 250 people every Saturday and need volunteers who are willing to clean the tables, do the dishes, sweep the floor and clean the kitchen. This opportunity is available to groups of two to 10 people. Contact volunteer outreach coordinator Debra Crye at (608) 250-2218.
