YWCA Volunteer Opportunities
1. Interpreters/translators: Use your language skills as an interpreter or translator. The YWCA frequently has residents/clients who need assistance with interpreting or who have forms and other materials that need translation. The most frequent need is for English/Spanish interpreters/translators, however, occasional needs for other languages occur.
Interpreters are also needed to meet with social workers during appointments with residents and also as a part of the children's programs. Individuals who have familiarity with social work and/or finance backgrounds would be highly encouraged to apply.
2. Adult tutors in math and reading: Volunteers are needed to tutor adult students in areas of basic math, reading and mechanical comprehension and spatial relations. Workbook materials will be provided for tutors on-site. The following tutoring shifts are available: Mondays 9am-noon, Tuesdays 3-6pm, Tuesdays 6-8:30pm, Wednesdays 5:30-8:30pm and Thursdays 9am-noon. Tutors would be needed to volunteer for at least two hours every week for the duration of the apprenticeship class, which runs from Jan. 8 to Feb. 22.
3. Other volunteer opportunities available:
- Attending to children during creative activity times at the YWCA
- Tutoring/mentoring girls at local Madison neighborhood centers
- Developing basic job skills workshops for adult job-seekers
- Assisting in the Suited for Success (donated interview attire) boutique
- Facilitating racial justice discussions
