Overarching Course Goals for Integrated Endocrinology and Reproductive Health
- Recognize the clinical presentation of the various states of hormone excess and deficiency and relate the signs and symptoms to the mechanism of hormone action
- Understand the concept of feedback as a control mechanism for hormone secretion throughout the endocrine system
- Understand the need to interpret hormone levels in the context of the other values within their respective feedback loops
- Relate the diagnostic evaluation and therapy of hormone disorders to their pathogenesis
- Utilize knowledge of the normal function of the male and female reproductive system to understand disorders of this system
- Recognize that abnormalities of reproduction can occur at all levels of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis as well as of the other reproductive organs/structures
- Understand the mechanisms of problems that occur in early pregnancy
- Recognize normal patterns of childhood and adolescent growth and puberty and understand the causes of abnormalities of these processes
