Mid-Rotation Feedback
At the midway point during each core and required clerkship at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in Madison, all students complete a midrotation feedback form (pdf).
This form is used for students to self-assess their knowledge and skills related to areas of patient care, communication and professionalism, to name a few.
After the student completes the form, it is given to a supervisor who has spent significant time with the student. A meeting with faculty and/or the clerkship director is planned to review the student's self-assessment, and for the faculty member to offer their feedback on the student's performance and core knowledge.
This meeting is also a chance for faculty to check in with students about their abilities to meet their experience requirements, and help remedy a solution to meet the student's needs before they complete the rotation.
The midrotation feedback process is an opportunity for students to practice the life-long learning skill of self-assessment, which is inherent in practice-based learning and improvement.
Each clerkship director will familiarize students with their own midrotation feedback process during orientation. Many clerkships modify the form to better address clerkship-specific learning goals.
