Health Innovation Program seminar with Dr. Stephen Jencks, MD, MPH, former assistant surgeon general of the United States and senior fellow with the Institute for Healthcare Improvement.

 

Dr. Stephen Jencks is an independent consultant in health care quality and safety and a senior fellow at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement. He focuses on understanding and preventing rehospitalization and other adverse results of poor transition planning.

 

He was chief scientist in the Office of Research and later senior clinical advisor and director of the Quality Improvement Organization program in the Office of Clinical Standards and Quality at the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicare Services. He led the transformation of Medicare's Quality Improvement Organization program from a focus on deficient providers to achieving national improvements in health care systems.

 

He received the Ernest A. Codman Award, the Distinguished Service Medal of the U.S. Public Health Service, and six Secretary's Distinguished Service Awards, and retired as assistant surgeon general.
