Through partnerships across the state, the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health prepares new physicians to serve in diverse health care settings. Clinical education at four regional campuses and in dozens of statewide clerkship sites offer students experience in rural communities, midsize cities and urban centers.
La Crosse provides the setting for our Western Clinical Campus, a partnership with Gundersen Health System. Although La Crosse’s population is just over 50,000, it hosts a 325-bed hospital with a Level II trauma and emergency center. Students train side by side with attending and resident physicians in a variety of medical and surgical subspecialties. La Crosse is a partner in our Wisconsin Academy for Rural Medicine (WARM), offering those bound for careers in rural medicine an invaluable experience that connects classroom learning with hands-on patient care.
