Medical Student Research Yearlong Fellowships, 2010-11 Applications

The following yearlong fellowships are available to students in the MD Program at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in Madison.

Priority to students from schools not previously represented (SMPH). Typically basic science projects, but some clinical. Student encouraged to choose lab at another institution, exceptions made.
International Fogarty International Center and Association of American Medical Colleges Fogarty International Clinical Research Scholars Program $25,000 plus RT travel to site and health insurance 11/19/2010 1 year Research completed at international site, see website for options.
Endocrinology American Diabetes Association Diabetes Clinical Scholars Award $30,000 ($20,000 student stipend plus $10,000 lab supplies) 1/15/2011 1 year Provide one-year of research support to students interested in clinical and basic science diabetes research.
Epidemiology Center for Disease Control Foundation The CDC Experience Applied Epidemiology Fellowship Living expenses 12/3/2010 10-12 months  Fellowship conducted at CDC in Atlanta.
Variable Howard Hughes Medical Institute Medical Research Fellows Program $28,000 plus $11,000 allowance for health care, travel and research-related costs  1/11/2011 1 year  Research conducted at any academic or nonprofit research institution in the US, except NIH.
Variable Howard Hughes Medical Institute HHMI-NIH Research Scholars Program ("Cloister") $28,000 plus health insurance and on-campus housing 1/10/2011 1 year Bethesda, MD, health insurance and other benefits provided.
Variable National Institutes of Health Clinical Research Training Program $33,700 1/17/2011 1 year  Bethesda MD, housing provided. Focus on clinical/translational research. Must have completed one year of clinical training. Eligible for second year of funding.
Variable Doris Duke Caritable Foundation Doris Duke Clinical Research Fellowship Program $28,000 plus health insurance and supplemental meeting, research and training funds 1/6/2011 1 year  Clinical research. Must have completed at least two years of medical school. Research conducted at one of 12 participating schools (SMPH is not one).
Nephrology American Society of Nephrology American Society of Nephrology Student Scholar Grant $400 per week plus $100 per week for laboratory supplies. Travel allowance of $1500 12/17/10 (for funding to start January to December 2011) 10-52 weeks Basic or clinical research, 10-52 weeks in continuous full-time research. Mentor must be an ASN member and must submit a program of study for the applicant. An award period can be a summer, semester, academic year, or any other 10-52 period of continuous full-time research. Applicant must be completing research in a nephrology lab.
