Dissertation: Use of Mammalian Mitochondrial Electron Transport Particles for the Detection of Toxic Substances in Fresh Water and Evaluation of Chemical Toxicity
As of Fall 2007: Senior Toxicologist; WI Dept of Health and Family Services; Bureau of Environmental and Occupational Health
Bio: Dr. Knobeloch received her doctorate in Environmental Toxicology from the University of Wisconsin – Madison in 1988. Since 1990, Dr. Knobeloch has worked for the Wisconsin Department of Health and Family Services as the department’s senior toxicologist. Dr. Knobeloch provides regulatory support to Wisconsin’s air quality, drinking water safety, groundwater protection, and pesticide regulation programs. She was a member of the NRC Committee on the Toxicological Effects of Mercury and an external reviewer of the Institute of Medicine’s Immunization Safety Review and the US EPA’s Mercury Report to Congress. Dr. Knobeloch was a member of the EPA’s National Pollution Prevention and Toxics Advisory Committee and serves on that agency’s Homeland Security Advisory Committee. She has authored numerous scientific articles on a broad range of environmental health issues including the health effects of contaminated drinking water, methylmercury exposure, and chronic exposure to carbon monoxide. Her current research focuses on exposure to contaminants found in drinking water and food. Dr. Knobeloch is an adjunct Professor in the Molecular and Environmental Toxicology Center and has trained graduate students from the Department of Population Health Sciences and the Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies.

2003 PhD in Molecular & Environmental Toxicology from UW-Madison - Advisor - Susan M. Smith
Dissertation: Apoptosis and Crainifacial Dysmorphology in Fetal Alcohol Syndrome: Genetic Modulation and a Contribution of Calcium Signaling
As of Fall 2007: Adjunct Biology Faculty, Minneapolis Community and Technical College
Bio: I recieved my bachelors degree in Biology from Jamestown College, in North Dakota and immediately moved to Wisconsin to begin my graduate work with METC. My research on fetal alcohol syndrome peaked my interest in the field of developmental biology, and I went on to do a post-doc on muscle formation in the frog (Xenopus laevis) tadpole. Being part of the METC outreach group convinced me that teaching lay in my future, and after finishing my post doc, and taking a few months off to enjoy my new daughter, I started a full time position teaching Microbiology at the Minneapolis Community and Technical College. In addition to learning their microbes, my students also tend to get quite a bit about the toxins they produce as well!
