Research
  • Microbial ecology
  • Stress-response systems of Gram-negative bacteria
  • Molecular and physiological mechanisms of acid tolerance
  • The research in my laboratory focuses on the isolation and characterization of acidophilic archaea, bacteria, and fungi. One area of emphasis is identifying and defining the function of proteins that protect or repair biomolecules, i.e. DNA. Studies with enterohemorrhagic E. coli O157:H7 are aimed at defining population dynamics and evolutionary processes affecting frequency and distribution. A variety of molecular and physiological approaches are used in these studies.
