Ataxia telagniectasia (A-T) is a rare, inherited disease characterized by radiation sensitivity, immune deficiency, chromosome instability, predisposition to cancer, and progressive cerebellar degeneration. A-T is caused by mutations in the ATM (ataxia-telangiectasia-mutated) gene. ATM encodes a protein kinase involved in DNA repair and cell cycle checkpoint signaling in response to DNA damage. The focus of my research is to understand the mechanisms of cerebellar degeneration in A-T and provide new insights into ATM function and regulation.
