Personal Health & Safety

UW-Madison is a relatively safe place. However, there are things you can do to prevent being a victim of crime and to maintain a healthy lifestyle. This includes, but certainly not limited to:
  • lock your doors
  • not lending out your computer passwords and ID numbers
  • not leaving personal belongings unattended
  • not working in the laboratory alone
  • wearing a bicycle helmet
  • having lights on your bike
  • walking with a friend
  • taking well-lit routes at night
  • taking advantage of SafeWalk Escort/SafeRide Bus/Cab services or call 262-5000
  • Women’s Transit Authority or call 256-3710
See the UW-Madison Police Department website for additional safety tips and programs on campus.

Also, it is essential that you enroll in and maintain a health insurance program. The University Health Services and the Counseling Services are good sources of medical care and counseling.
