Commencement

Degrees are awarded in August, December, and May. Commencement ceremonies are held in December and May only. You may attend either ceremony.

The department must submit the names of graduates for printing in the commencement program usually a couple of months prior to the commencement date. You may still attend commencement if your name does not appear in the commencement program.

Caps and gowns are rented through the University Bookstore. Persons receiving doctoral degrees must have an escort, typically your advisor, for commencement. Escorts must have a PhD degree; if you do not have an escort, there will be someone at commencement who will serve as your escort.

Call the Office of the Secretary of the Faculty at (608) 262-3956 or click here for additional information.
