Thesis Preparation & Deposit
After receiving approval of your thesis outline from your Research Advisory Committee (usually approximately 6 months prior to your defense), you will begin the process of writing the thesis.

The work described in your thesis must be your own work. Any work that is described in the thesis but completed by someone other than you (as in the case of collaborations) must be clearly indicated. As you progress in the writing, your major professor will make suggestions for re-writes, clarifications, etc. The University has very strict guidelines that must be followed in preparing the thesis.

Graduate School deadlines and related information may be found by clicking here.

At least one month prior to the defense, the METC program coordinator must request the final warrant and prepare your thesis defense seminar announcement. You must provide a copy of your dissertation to your Research Advisory Committee at least 10 days prior to the oral defense. After successful completion of the defense, you will need to make an appointment with the Graduate School PhD Office for the final review and depositing of the thesis. All final corrections must be made to the dissertation prior to this appointment.

The deadlines website listed above provides a summary of what you must bring with you to the review. After the Graduate School has approved your dissertation, you will need to go to the Bursar’s Office to pay the Microfilming and Binding Fee. This fee is your responsibility. If you are registering and retaining copyright, you will also need to pay the copyright fee. In addition to the original final copy of the thesis that you leave with the Graduate School, you must leave at least two (2), and up to five (5) additional copies of your thesis with the METC Program Coordinator. One copy will be for the METC office and the other will be for your major professor. Other copies are optional and would be your personal copies.
