Degree

Degrees are posted on official University transcripts approximately 4 to 6 weeks after the end of each semester. Diplomas are sent out approximately four months after the end of the semester you graduate.

Thus, if you need a letter indicating that you have fulfilled all of the degree requirements (which you usually need to be payrolled as a postdoc), you may get such a letter from the Registrar’s Office after you have deposited your thesis and paid the necessary fees.

A UW degree holder is handed out at Commencement; if you do not attend commencement, you may pick up a degree holder at 21 N. Park Street. Update your address in My UW-Madison, so that the diploma is sent to the correct address. International students who need the diploma sent outside the US should make arrangements in advance by contacting the Registrar's Office.
