How To Apply for Admission
Electronic applications are required. Materials must be sent to the Molecular and Environmental Toxicology Center, except the processing fee that goes to the Graduate School. The program cannot make an admissions decision before the processing fee has been received and recorded by the Graduate School. All supporting materials must be sent directly to the METC.

Apply online through the Graduate School website. Be sure to pay all required fees. Former participants in the METC Summer Research Opportunities Program can request to be excused from having to pay the application fee.

The Graduate School offers an additional checklist for applicants.

The Graduate School site also describes requirements for admission minimums and country-specific international student requirements.

The Graduate School will not request financial information of international applicants until the METC recommendation on admission is received. An outline of potential expenses international students should anticipate is also provided by the Graduate School.

Have an official copy of your Graduate Record Examination (GRE) score report sent to the University of Wisconsin-Madison (institution code R1846, department code 0219).
  • The standard time for Educational Testing Service's processing of GRE scores is 10 to 15 business days from the date you take the exam.
  • Between processing, mailing and uploading the scores, it will take approximately 15 to 20 business days from the date that you take your general exam to the time when the METC can access your score.
Whether you take a computerized GRE or a paper GRE, make sure your scores reach the University before the January 15 deadline. For test dates and other information about the GRE, call the ETS headquarters in Princeton, NJ, at (609) 771-7670, visit their website.

You may receive your copy of the score report earlier than we do. Therefore, if you wish to be considered for a fellowship, you should send us a photocopy of your score as soon as you receive it. This will enable us to start evaluating your application.

Submit the following materials to the Molecular and Environmental Toxicology Center.
  • A resume listing teaching and professional experience, academic distinctions or honors earned, and any national graduate study fellowships for which you have applied.

  • Two complete sets of official transcripts from each college or university you have attended.
    • These should be sealed by in an envelope by the Registrar and included in the application materials, or sent directly from the Registrar.

    • If you are applying for the January 15 deadline, we would like to have your grades from the previous Fall semester/quarter, if possible.

    • You may wish to submit one transcript to be sure of meeting the deadline, and then have a second transcript sent when your Fall grades become available.

    • If any of the courses required for entry appear on your transcript under another name (i.e., genetics listed only as biology), please include a syllabus of that course with your application material.
    • International academic records must be in the original language accompanied by an official English translation. Documents must be issued by the school with the official seal/stamp and an official signature.

 Science Course Credits.xls

Science Course Credit Form
A Science Course Form, which is a list of undergraduate science courses taken and the calculation of your undergraduate science courses grade point average needs to be completed and returned to the METC Graduate Program Coordinator via email attachment. Identify courses in progress or to be taken before you enter the program. If you have completed post-baccalaureate courses, record them and calculate their GPA on a duplicate of the form.

When submitting your application materials, be careful not to confuse the Molecular and Environmental Toxicology Center with separate programs at the UW-Madison with similar names.

Applying to Multiple Departments

If you wish to be considered by more than one department or program at UW-Madison, you must list them under "Department or Major Field for Graduate Study" on the application, and directly provide each program or department with a complete set of required materials, including a copy of the application form. Do not expect departments to forward materials. If you do not provide these materials directly to the Center, we may be unable to review your application in time for admission. Only one application fee is required, no matter how many programs to which you apply.
