The University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health invites applications and nominations for the position of chair of the Department of Medical Physics.

The Department of Medical Physics has 26 faculty and 6 collateral faculty, each with an active research program. Many have shared appointments in radiology, psychiatry or human oncology, emphasizing close working relationships with these departments.

Collaborations are significantly enhanced in the recently completed Wisconsin Institutes for Medical Research, where faculty, staff and trainees have access to state of the art medical imaging systems, pre-clinical imaging devices, the IMAC image analysis core, a PETrace cyclotron and chemistry lab, radiation metrology labs, programs within the UW Carbone Cancer Center, and clinical treatment facilities in the adjacent radiation oncology suites of UW Hospital and Clinics.

The department houses the UW Medical Radiation Research Center, with its AAPM-accredited calibration laboratory (ADCL), and the International Center for Accelerated Medical Imaging.

The medical physics department has a large graduate program, with extensive research and didactic training in every aspect of the discipline. Approximately 160 graduate students in medical physics, BME, EE and physics work with faculty, staff, and clinical researchers in the Wisconsin Institutes for Medical Research.

We seek an accomplished scientist with a strong record of academic achievement and administrative leadership. Special emphasis will be given to individuals with experience in graduate training and faculty mentoring. The successful candidate will have a compelling vision for the future of medical physics in a leading academic medical center.

Candidates must have a PhD degree or equivalent and academic credentials for a tenured faculty appointment at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Send a letter of application or nomination, with curriculum vitae, to Thomas Grist, MD and James Shull, PhD, Medical Physics Chair Search Committee, c/o Jamie Edge, 4150 HSLC, 750 Highland Avenue, Madison, WI, 53705-2111, jledge@wisc.edu.

Applications from minorities and women are encouraged. To receive full consideration, applications should arrive by January 11, 2013.

Unless confidentiality is requested in writing, information regarding applicants must be released upon request. Finalists cannot be guaranteed confidentiality. Wisconsin Caregiver Law applies. The University of Wisconsin is an equal opportunity, affirmative action employer.
