Medical Student Wins Awards for Study of College Alcohol Use
Kerry Gannon, a fourth-year medical student at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, was the recipient of best poster and distinguished young investigator awards for her presentation about alcohol use in college at the Excellence in Paediatrics conference, held Nov. 30-Dec. 3 in Istanbul, Turkey.
Gannon's project was titled "Alcohol Use Among College Freshmen: A Longitudinal Analysis Using Facebook."
The conference drew 1,500 attendees from 93 countries. Gannon is a research honors student working under the mentorship of Megan Moreno, MD, MSEd, MPH of the Department of Pediatrics.
Gannon, a research honors student, is a member of the Adolescent Health Research Team led by Moreno. The group focuses on how adolescents use of media and technology, and how that impacts their health behaviors.
