The School of Medicine and Public Health ranked in the top 20 in a study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine that ranked 141 U.S. medical schools on three measures. Read More

 

 

Researchers Find New Subtype of Breast Cancer

Avtar RoopraUsing a Wisconsin Partnership Program New Investigator Program grant, Dr. Avtar Roopra and his team discovered an alteration in the REST gene, which may predict more aggressive strains of breast cancer and open the door to promising new therapies.

 

The discovery is an important step in personalized medicine - identifying some of the most aggressive forms of the cancer and suggesting a target to attack with new drugs. Read More

Four LIHF Planning Grants Awarded

Lifecourse Initiative for Healthy FamiliesThe Wisconsin Partnership Program provided $830,000 in grants this spring to help improve birth outcomes among African-Americans in southeastern Wisconsin.

 

The funds will be used to set a course toward improving access to maternal and child health resources and tailoring city-specific action plans that use evidence-based practices to close the racial disparity in birth outcomes. Read More

 

 

Legislature Joins Fight against Infant Mortality

familyThe Wisconsin State Legislature has convened a Special Committee to study infant mortality, which will complement the Wisconsin Partnership Program's $10 million commitment to the issue in the state's African-American community.

 

The Legislative Special Committee will study the public health costs of infant mortality and steps taken in other regions to remedy the problem. The committee will develop a strategic plan to reduce infant mortality in Wisconsin and make recommendations to the Legislature. Read More
