The Wisconsin Partnership Program of the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health distributes funds through two the Medical Education and Research Committee and Community-Academic Partnership Fund.
Medical Education and Research Committee Grants Awarded
The Medical Education and Research Committee (MERC) allocates and distributes funds designated for medical education and research initiatives that advance population health. Since 2004, the Medical Education and Research Committee has made more than 70 awards in the amount of over $43 million to faculty for health improvement projects.
The Medical Education and Research Committee's Targeted Awards are typically multiyear projects designed to develop new approaches to health issues.
The committee also administers two types of competitive awards. New Investigator Program Awards are available to UW School of Medicine and Public Health assistant professors. Emphasis is on education or research projects spanning the spectrum of basic, clinical, or population health science and supporting innovative approaches leading to improvements in health.
Collaborative Health Sciences Program Awards are available to UW School of Medicine and Public Health associate professors, and senior or distinguished scientists. Collaboration across the traditional boundaries of basic science, clinical science, social and behavioral science and/or population health science is required. The collaborations may be within the UW School of Medicine and Public Health; or they may be with other UW-Madison schools or colleges, UW System campuses, the Medical College of Wisconsin, state agencies, or community organizations.
Community-Academic Partnership Fund Grants Awarded
The Community-Academic Partnership Fund, established by the Oversight and Advisory, promotes the goals of Wisconsin's health plan, Healthiest Wisconsin 2010 and the Mission, Vision and Guiding Principles of the Wisconsin Partnership Program.
A transparent, accessible and objective grant process has resulted in 100 grants awarded totaling $24 million to community organizations.
