The University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health's discovery and transmission of knowledge to the public is enhanced through its policies regarding patents and copyrights on intellectual property and tangible products of research.
The UW School of Medicine and Public Health does not claim ownership rights in intellectual property of its faculty, staff and students produced during research, except as required by funding agreements or other UW-Madison policies, including the right of the university to use such property for its educational and research purposes.
