graduateThe mission of the University of Wisconsin Medical Alumni Association is to cultivate relationships with alumni and students to support and strengthen the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.

 

The Wisconsin Medical Alumni Association is a leader in serving the needs of the medical school, alumni, students and faculty. The Wisconsin Medical Alumni Association is governed by a board of directors. The board is comprised of 25 alumni with balanced representation from four Wisconsin districts.

 

The Wisconsin Medical Alumni Association began in 1956 with Kenneth Lemmer, MD '50 named as its first president. Its rich history at the UW School of Medicine and Public Health includes implementing many programs that have cultivated many lasting friendships.

 

Here are a few recent Wisconsin Medical Alumni Association accomplishments:

 

2000-Present

  • Opportunities created to engage current residents-in-training
  • Wisconsin Medical Alumni Association assumes the organization and planning of the annual graduation ceremony and party
  • Board of directors establishes the first Wisconsin Medical Alumni Association Student Scholarship Fund
  • Wisconsin Medical Alumni Association sponsors and organizes annual White Coat Ceremony
  • Wisconsin Medical Alumni Association launches SAPP, Student and Alumni Partnership Program, which matches alumni to students who have an interest in a defined specialty
  • Wisconsin Medical Alumni Association hosts first "Operation Education" in conjunction with the State Medical Society Foundation
  • Dean's Fellows renamed "Farrell Fellows" to honor Dean Philip Farrell

1990s

  • A program to fund low-interest student loans was created, later named Samuel Perison Low Interest Student Loan Fund
  • Charles Russell Bardeen, MD, Founding Dean Memorial Fund was created and given to a fourth-year medical student
  • A major fundraising effort launched for the new Medical Alumni Auditorium in the Health Sciences Learning Center

1980s

  • Wisconsin Medical Alumni Professorships created
  • The Student Host Program was established for students visiting potential residencies
