Grant Writing Tips
These tips can be used by proposal writers seeking a grant from the Wisconsin Partnership Program's Community-Academic Partnership Fund.
Know the Wisconsin Partnership Program (WPP)
The Community-Academic Partnership Fund gives the highest priority to applications that advance the Wisconsin Partnership Program's mission, vision and guiding principles, and the goals of the State Health Plan. Applicants are encouraged to also look at the implementation objectives in the State Health Plan as a resource for building their proposals around priority funding areas.
- Read the RfP in detail
- Review the Wisconsin Partnership Program's strategic Five-Year Plan and annual reports
- Read about grants funded in the past
Keep the scope manageable
- Start with a logic model and be sure outcomes are measurable (www.uwex.edu)
- A logic model will help clarify project activities and roles
- Projects that are smaller in scope are easier to understand and easier to measure
Allow others to review your grant
- Never submit a proposal that has not been reviewed by others
- Ask reviewers to identify goals and objectives
- Choose reviewers who may not be familiar with the project idea or topic, and those who will be provide honest feedback
Include the academic partner in planning
- Evidence of a strong community-academic partnership is essential
- Meet with your academic partner early and often
- Establish roles and responsibilities
