In early fall, all Medical Scientist Training Program students attend an overnight retreat at a wooded or lakeside resort outside of the city of Madison.

The purpose of the retreat is for all members of the MSTP program (students, directors and staff) to get together, off-campus, and have a space and time to reflect on the previous year and consider the coming year. Retreat planning and execution is a team effort involving the administrators, the student organization’s executive committee, and the directors.

The first evening typically includes a dinner, introductory talks by the director and student organization co-presidents, and a social gathering welcoming new students.

The schedule for day two of retreat will vary depending on current student and program needs and interests. Typically, it will include sessions related to wellness and communication, research discussions, as well as student-only breakout sessions led by senior MSTP students to discuss any current issues in the program. There are numerous opportunities throughout the weekend to share successes and challenges and to support one another.
