Frequently asked questions

Is there anything else to submit?

No. The only additions still to be made to your application file are your interview reports. We are not able to accept any other submissions.

Can I send a Thank You note?

Send a note to your interviewers’ attention via email at medadmissions@med.wisc.edu. Please include the name of your interviewer in your email so we can forward it to the appropriate recipient. Because our interview experience is virtual this year, we will not be accepting postal mailed thank-you notes.

How does the final review by the Admissions Committee work?

Following your interview, your complete application file will undergo a final review by the Admissions Committee to determine whether you will be accepted, placed on the alternate list or not accepted. The Admissions Committee meets regularly and will complete the final review of your application as soon as possible.

How do you notify me? When can I check my status?

You will be notified via email of the Admissions Committee’s final decision regarding your application. If you do not receive a decision letter within the eight weeks following your interview, please send us an email at medadmissions@med.wisc.edu or call 608-263-4925.

Make sure to keep your mailing address, email address and phone number updated in AMCAS under the "preferred" section of your "contact information."

Have I met the premedical requirements?

Review the requirements and ensure they are met by the time of matriculation to medical school.

What if I am on the alternate list?

Once all applicants have been reviewed, you will be notified of your position on the Alternate List, usually in April. You may receive an offer of acceptance from us at any time during the application cycle. Due to the rush of activity at that time, we may telephone or email you to make an offer before sending your official acceptance letter.

Are there more opportunities to get to know UW?

All accepted students will be provided with invited to a Second Look event held in the spring. Watch your email for further details.
