Step 1: Answering clinical questions of therapy

The case:

Betty is a 66 year old woman who comes in for follow-up of her hypertension. Her physical exam and blood tests are unremarkable excepting a blood pressure of 145/90. She does not smoke but admits to 2 mixed drinks prior to dinner during the week and up to 4 mixed drinks on weekend evenings. She has been thinking about cutting back on her use of alcohol. You are not sure whether brief counseling would be effective in helping her reduce her excessive drinking.
