University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health students interested in public health can take advantage of scholarship and stipend opportunities to support their education and research.

Opportunities are available for students in the Path of Distinction in Public Health (PoD-PH) and MD-MPH Program.

Path of Distinction in Public Health (PoD-PH) Scholar Stipend 

Purpose: To connect students with a community focused project in the Madison area mentored by the PoD-PH faculty director. Designed to build leadership, community engagement and advocacy skills.

Amount: $400 per week up to a maximum of $4,000 per year per student (up to four available)

Eligibility: Any MD student in the Path of Distinction in Public Health (PoD-PH). Priority given to students who have an MPH or plan to pursue the MD-MPH dual degree option.

Application: Applications are available online and are due January 14, 2018. Students may use their personal statement from their MPH application, if applicable. Awards will be announced no later than February 15 to ensure enrollment in the required PHS 715.

Wisconsin Medical Society (WMS) Foundation Summer Fellowship Program

Purpose: To link medical students with practicing physician mentors (preferably WMS member) to work on community health initiatives over the summer.

Amount: $3,500/year per student (six available statewide)

Eligibility: Any MD student in the School of Medicine and Public Health. May be used by MD-MPH students who pursue summer fellowship that may transition into the MPH field work.

Application: Applications are available online and are due February 1. Approved fellows will be notified by March 15.

MD-MPH Dual Degree Scholarship

Purpose: The School of Medicine and Public Health has scholarship funds available for MD-MPH dual degree students seeking support for their public health training and education.

Amount: Three scholarship opportunities exist. $10,000/year per student (up to six available per year); $15,000/year per student (one available per year); $5,000/year per student (one available per year).

Eligibility: Any MD student planning to pursue the MPH degree in addition to the medical degree at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Cannot be combined with a graduate assistantship, although recipients may work in student hourly positions. The award is contingent upon matriculation into MPH program.

Application: Applications are available online. Applications due by February 1 of the year the student plans to matriculate into the MPH program.
