Purpose/goal of the project

The purpose of this project is to measure the amount of chemicals in people who eat fish caught from lakes and rivers near Milwaukee. We also want to know what types of fish and how much fish people in the Milwaukee area eat.

Description of the study/SHOW involvement in the project

Trained SHOW staff are working to collect the information the Department of Health Services is seeking for this project. SHOW is providing staff to prepare mailing invitation letters to anglers, scheduling appointments with eligible anglers, and collecting information at the scheduled appointments. Trained SHOW staff collect information on fishing and fish consumption via a questionnaire, and measure height, weight, and waist circumference. Participants are also asked to give blood, urine and hair samples.

Why the study is being done

In the future we hope to use the results of this project to protect people from exposure to chemicals in the environment.
