Amazing Grace Alzheimer's Chorus Returns, Seeks New Members
Milwaukee – The Amazing Grace Chorus is looking for more beautiful voices to add to the choir.
The Wisconsin Alzheimer’s Institute “Amazing Grace” Chorus begins its seventh season Saturday, September 9. The program, an outreach effort of the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, brings together about 20 African-American singers who either have Alzheimer’s disease or are caring for someone who does. The choir is looking for new members.
Rehearsals are every Saturday from September 9 through December 16, 2017. The choir practices in Chorus Room 101 at the Milwaukee High School of the Arts, 2300 W. Highland Ave., Milwaukee, from 10am to noon.
“This program is so special. It encourages self-confidence and it improves mood and memory recall. It’s a devastating disease and we try to use the gift of music to make the day a little better,” said Stephanie Houston, outreach specialist for the Wisconsin Alzheimer’s Institute.
