UW clinical trial tests new way to treat glioblastoma

A new clinical trial at UW Health | Carbone Cancer Center uses a personalized medicine method to try to teach the immune system to recognize and destroy glioblastoma tumors.

The phase 2b trial is evaluating whether implanting diffusion chambers containing a patient’s dying tumor cells can coax their immune system to find and destroy cancer cells. Dr. Ankush Bhatia, assistant professor of neurology at UW School of Medicine and Public Health, is serving as site Principal Investigator.

Carbone Cancer Center is one of about two dozen cancer centers testing this new immunotherapy approach to treating one of the deadliest cancers.
