Danielle Smith is the community engagement manager for the MPH program. She helps students prepare for and implement their Applied Practice Experience (APEX) and encourages students to reach out to her with any questions about their APEX.

Smith has extensive experience in managing complex programs, supporting collaborative efforts, and leading undergraduate and graduate-level training experiences. Prior to joining the MPH program at UW–Madison, she served as the center coordinator for the Midwest Center of Excellence for Vector-Borne Disease (MCEVBD), a research and training initiative established by the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention to develop the next generation of public health entomologists and expand the nation’s capacity to prevent and respond to vector-borne disease threats. In this role, she helped ensure the success of the center’s research and training projects, including the MCEVBD Summer Research Fellowship and the Public Health Entomology Certificate program.

Smith previously served as a research specialist for the Wisconsin Research and Education Network (WREN) within the UW School of Medicine’s Department of Family Medicine and Community Health, where she managed various collaborative research projects at primary care clinics across Wisconsin.

Smith graduated from the UW School of Medicine’s Master of Public Health program, with an emphasis on public health leadership and collaborative change. She also holds a bachelor of science degree in social welfare from UW–Madison.
