David Tillman, MD, is the associate dean for admissions at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. He leads the Doctor of Medicine (MD) program’s Office of Admissions.
Tillman provides direction and guidance to the MD Office of Admissions throughout every stage of the student admissions process, including pathway programs, recruitment, enrollment management, strategic planning and quality improvement.
He uses enrollment management strategies to ensure appropriate class size and a balance of student characteristics based on the mission and priorities of the School of Medicine and Public Health. He also ensures the office adheres to all necessary legal requirements and accreditation standards.
Tillman has been a faculty member in the school’s BerbeeWalsh Department of Emergency Medicine since 2016. Clinically, he specializes in emergency care and serves as a flight physician with UW Health Med Flight.
Prior to becoming an associate dean, Tillman served as the director of medical student education for the BerbeeWalsh Department of Emergency Medicine. He has extensive experience in directing strategic planning for medical student advising and education. He has also led national efforts to create standards for advising in the field of emergency medicine education and for residency application and review. Among other recognitions, Tillman has earned the Young Educator Award from the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine’s Clerkship Directors in Emergency Medicine group.
Tillman obtained his undergraduate degree in neurobiology from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and attended medical school at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. He completed his residency in emergency medicine and a fellowship in undergraduate medical education in emergency medicine at UW Hospitals and Clinics.
