Tim McGuine is a researcher in the Sports Medicine Program in the Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. His research focus is to better understand the incidence, risk factors, prevention and health outcomes for injuries and other conditions in adolescent athletes. In the early 2000’s, he developed the Wisconsin Sports Injury Research Network to serve as the primary data collection system for cross sectional cohort studies and injury prevention trials.

This network uses a trained team of licensed athletic trainers and sport coaches to collect and report prospective research data in diverse secondary school and club sport settings. Since its inception, this network has enrolled 40,000 youth and adolescent athletes as research participants from 300+ high schools and sport clubs. These efforts have resulted in numerous peer-reviewed publications as well as many research presentations and invitations to lecture at national and international sports medicine symposia.

In addition to his academic work, McGuine serves on the Sports Medicine Advisory Committees for the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association and the National Federation of High Schools. McGuine is a Fellow of the National Athletic Trainers Association.
