Getting men to talk about their health at all takes some doing, so Second Baptist Church is hosting a Madison event targeted at men’s health awareness. As a collaborative effort with the Cancer Health Disparities Initiative of the UW Carbone Cancer Center, cancer basics will be the main topic for this event. Other featured health topics will be diabetes and high blood pressure.

The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 10 at the Second Baptist Church, 4303 Britta Parkway. Registration will take place on site between 10 and 10:30 a.m.

Tracy Downs, surgeon and director of the UW bladder cancer program, will open the discussion and offer some professional perspectives from his career as a doctor.

Aaron Perry, founder of the Rebalanced Life Wellness Association, will highlight his work of creating the Men’s Health and Education Center, inside the JP Hair Design barbershop.

Joshua Wright, community project coordinator and education facilitator, will present on the main topic covering information from the Cancer Clear and Simple curriculum.

There will be a free breakfast served to complement this morning activity.
