Joshua Coon, PhD, professor of biomolecular chemistry and chemistry at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, has earned a Discovery in Proteomic Sciences Award from the Human Proteome Organization (HUPO).
The award recognizes Coon’s outstanding effort and achievement in proteomics, which is the study of cellular proteins and their functions.
The Human Proteome Organization is an international scientific organization representing and promoting proteomics through global cooperation and collaborations by fostering the development of new technologies, techniques and training.
Coon’s lab develops and applies mass spectrometric technology to study human health. According to a news release, Coon has contributed heavily to aspects of proteomics and metabolomics research developing next-generation instrumentation and instrument methods, proteomics workflows, novel isotopic labeling quantitative approaches and associated software development that has influenced many labs around the globe. The tools he has created have gained wide use around the world.
Coon will be presented the award at the HUPO 2018 conference, held September 30-October 3 in Orlando, Florida.
