Dr. John Doebley Named Chair of Medical Genetics

Madison, Wisconsin - Dr. John Doebley is the new chair of medical genetics and the Laboratory of Genetics at UW-Madison.


SubscribeThe Laboratory of Genetics includes the medical genetics department of the UW School of Medicine and Public Health and the genetics department of the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences.


Doebley holds a doctorate in botany from UW-Madison and completed a fellowship at North Carolina State. He taught at Texas A&M and at the University of Minnesota before returning to UW in 1999 as professor of genetics.


Doebley’s research focuses on the evolutionary genetics of maize and its wild relatives. 


A member of the National Academy of Sciences, he has published and presented widely and has attracted substantial federal funding for his research into plant genetics.


The new appointment began January 1.
