Brian H. Rank, MD, is acting vice dean for clinical affairs. His role is responsible for aligning the clinical mission of the UW School of Medicine and Public Health with the school’s education and research missions.

Dr. Rank helps ensure strong alignment and partnership between the school and its health system partner, UW Health. He provides strategic oversight and operational leadership for clinical department affairs, partnerships and faculty engagement related to patient care. His work also fosters clinical research activities and further integrates clinical education with training programs.

Dr. Rank represents the medical school in partnering with UW Health leaders to address financial and administrative issues and opportunities in the faculty practice. He works collaboratively with senior leaders throughout the school to align clinical department affairs, partnerships and faculty engagement related to patient care.

Dr. Rank completed medical school, residency in internal medicine, and fellowship in oncology and hematology at the University of Minnesota in 1985. At that time, he became a Consultant in the Division of Hematology at Hennepin County Medical Center and served as the Internal Medicine Residency Program Director. In 1995, he became a physician at HealthPartners, a Minnesota-based nonprofit integrated system of care and coverage founded in 1957. His leadership roles included serving as executive medical director for nine years, and he has been at the helm of integrations and health system partnerships throughout his career. An inductee into Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, his professional interests include optimizing care delivery and supporting clinician well-being.
