Cai Awarded a R01 Grant on Development of Molecular Imaging Agents
Madison, Wisconsin - Weibo Cai, PhD, Assistant Professor of Radiology and Medical Physics and member of the UW Carbone Cancer Center Imaging and Radiation Sciences Program, was recently awarded an NIH R01 grant which started in April 2013.
The grant focuses on the development of novel positron emission tomography (PET) imaging agents for monitoring prostate cancer therapy. The research will provide critical information expected to guide future clinical trials in prostate cancer and lead to a paradigm shift in patient management.
In addition, the novel imaging agents are expected to be applicable to other solid tumors. Funding is provided by the National Cancer Institute and the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering.
Todd E. Barnhart, PhD, Director of the UW Cyclotron Facility, is a Co-Investigator on the grant. George Wilding, MD, Glenn Liu, MD, R. Jerry Nickles, PhD, James Holden, PhD, and Robert Jeraj, PhD are consultants.
